PNW Components Recalls Allegedly Defective Loam Gen 2 Bicycle Pedals Over Risk of Detachment and Crash

PNW Components has announced a recall of its Loam Gen 2 aluminum alloy bicycle pedals after identifying a defect that could cause the pedal to separate from the bike during use, increasing the risk of a fall or crash.

According to safety officials, the axle of the recalled pedals can crack, potentially causing the pedal to detach from the crank arm while riding. A sudden loss of pedal support can cause riders to lose control of their bicycles, posing a serious risk of injury.

The recall involves PNW Components Loam Pedal Gen 2 aluminum alloy mountain bike pedals sold as aftermarket accessories through online retailers and bicycle shops. The pedals are platform-style, non-clip pedals, and can be identified by a laser-etched “Tectonic” logo at the corner of the pedal body, on the same side as the threaded axle. The recalled pedals were sold in black, silver, green, orange, and purple.

The company has reported receiving four incidents involving pedal axles cracking and separating from the crank.

Contact The Ammons Law Firm for Legal Help Involving Defective Products

Mountain bike riders encounter rough terrain, rocks, drops, and sudden twists and turns while riding. These conditions require not only a skilled rider but also a bicycle that is safe and reliable when it matters most.

That includes the pedals. They carry the rider’s weight, absorb impact, and help maintain balance through every turn and descent. If a pedal fails in the middle of a ride—while navigating uneven ground or moving at speed—the rider can lose control instantly, leading to serious and long-term injuries.

A failure like this shifts the focus to the product: how was it designed? Was it properly tested and built to withstand the conditions riders actually face?
