One Person Injured After Semi-Truck Tire Blowout Accident on Interstate 70 in Clark County, Ohio

CLARK COUNTY, Ohio — One person was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after debris from a semi-truck tire blowout struck another vehicle along Interstate 70.

According to troopers, a semi-truck traveling in the center lane experienced multiple tire failures on its trailer, sending debris into a Lexus GS350 in the left lane. Debris struck the passenger side and the windshield of the Lexus. The driver of the Lexus then left the roadway and came to rest in a grassy area.

Medics took a passenger in the Lexus to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the truck driver was cited for operating an unsafe vehicle.

When Semi-Truck Tires Fail, Other Drivers Are Put at Risk

Why was this truck driver operating an unsafe vehicle? Why would he place other drivers he is sharing the road with in harm’s way? It is a start that the truck driver was cited, but that alone is not enough.

Loose tires pose a serious danger to other drivers and passengers on the road, as seen in this incident. The trucking company and the driver are responsible for ensuring that tires are properly secured and maintained, and that the truck is properly loaded. Did that happen here? Uncovering all the factors that led to this incident is important to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable.

Someone was left injured and is now hospitalized. As they face the physical pain of recovery, time away from work, lost income, and growing hospital bills, the strain can quickly affect them and the whole family. They have every right to seek answers.

I hope the passenger makes a full recovery and finds the answers they need.
