Fixwal Recalls 7-Drawer Dressers Over Entrapment and Death Risks; Units Fail to Meet Federal Safety Standard

WASHINGTON — Fixwal has issued a recall for its 7-drawer dressers due to serious tip-over and entrapment risks that could result in severe injury or death, particularly to children. The affected furniture does not comply with the mandatory federal stability requirements for clothing storage units under the STURDY Act.

According to the recall notice, the dressers can become unstable if they are not secured to a wall. An unsecured unit may tip over, posing a significant hazard to young children who climb on or pull on drawers.

The recall applies to Fixwal-branded 7-drawer dressers sold in black and white finishes. The units feature a metal frame, a wooden top surface, and seven collapsible fabric drawers. Each dresser measures approximately 55.1 inches in length, 11.8 inches in width, and 31.5 inches in height.

Contact The Ammons Law Firm if You Were Hurt by a Dangerous Home Product

Dressers are used in many parts of the home, including bedrooms, nurseries, living rooms, and even entryways. In many households, a dresser can be found in more than one room. Because these pieces of furniture are so widely used, they should be designed and built with safety as a top priority to help prevent tip-overs, entrapment, and serious injury. This is especially important in homes with children.

Before dressers or any piece of furniture is sold, they should be tested to ensure they meet appropriate safety standards. An everyday household item should never pose a risk of serious injury or death to the most vulnerable members of a household: children.

When a dresser tips over and causes devastating harm, families are left searching for answers about how such a common piece of furniture could become so dangerous. They deserve clear explanations of what went wrong and whether the incident could have been prevented.
