Residential Elevators Recalls Allegedly Defective StrikeLock Door Locking Devices Due to Fall and Injury Hazards

WASHINGTON — Residential Elevators has announced a recall of its StrikeLock hoistway door locking devices because a defect can allow a residential elevator to operate while a landing door remains open, creating a serious fall and injury hazard.

The recall involves silver StrikeLock hoistway door locking devices installed in the door jamb of residential elevator landing doors. The device resembles a standard door latch plate.

The StrikeLock is designed to secure the landing door leading to a residential elevator hoistway. The recalled device may fail to prevent the elevator cab from moving when that door is open. This can leave an open elevator shaft accessible and expose users to falls that could result in serious injury or death.

The recalled StrikeLock devices were sold through Residential Elevators and authorized elevator dealers nationwide from April 2024 through March 2026 for approximately $1,000.
