Zak Designs Recalls Allegedly Defective Target-Exclusive Water Bottles Due to Choking Hazard

SPOKANE, Wash. — Zak Designs has announced a recall of its 26-ounce plastic water bottles sold exclusively at Target after determining that a cap component can break and pose a choking hazard.

The issue involves the inner plastic straw housed in the flip-top portion of the twist-off cap. According to the company, the straw may fracture during use, resulting in small plastic fragments that could be inhaled or ingested. Zak Designs has received multiple reports of the straw breaking, including instances in which children expelled plastic fragments while using the bottle.

The recalled bottles were part of a “Back-to-College” promotion and feature various licensed characters, including Captain America, Batman, Minions, My Little Pony, Spider-Man, Star Wars aircraft, Superman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thor, and Wonder Woman. The 10-inch-tall bottles came in multiple colors, including clear, gray, navy blue, pink, and teal, as well as gray with colored caps. The bottom of each affected bottle is embossed with the mold number “14158” and the “Zak Designs®” name.
