Trek and Electra Recall Allegedly Defective Rear Wheel Bolts on Electric Bicycles Due to Fall and Injury Hazard

Trek and Electra electric bicycles are being recalled due to a defect involving the rear wheel bolts that could pose a fall risk to riders.

According to the recall notice, the rear wheel bolts installed on certain model year 2026 Trek FX+ 1 and Electra Townie Go! electric bicycles can break when tightened to the required torque. If the bolts fail, the rear wheel may detach from the bike, creating a serious fall hazard.

The recall affects model year 2026 Trek-branded FX+ 1 Midstep, FX+ 1S Midstep, FX+ 1 Stepover, and FX+ 1S Stepover bicycles, as well as Electra-branded Townie Go! bicycles. Step Thru and Townie Go! S Step Thru electric bicycles sold before October 28, 2025. The bicycles were offered in multiple colors and sizes.

The company has received seven reports of rear wheel bolts breaking on the affected models.
