Blue Wave Recalls Certain Allegedly Defective Above-Ground Pools Due to Child Drowning Hazard

ELKHORN, Wis. — Blue Wave has announced a recall of certain 48-inch and taller above-ground swimming pools after identifying a safety concern that could allow children to gain unintended access to the pool, posing a serious drowning risk.

According to the recall notice, the affected pools contain a compression strap, also referred to as a reinforcing belt, that runs around the outside of the pool and its vertical support poles. This strap can serve as a foothold, allowing a child to climb into the pool even when the ladder has been removed.

The recall involves multiple Blue Wave above-ground pool models sold in different sizes and designs, including round pools measuring between 15 and 24 feet in diameter, with depths of 48 or 52 inches.

The recalled pools were sold in a variety of finishes and styles, including:

• Gray Rattan
• Espresso Wicker
• Navy Blue
• Aspen
• Mocha Wicker
• Laguna

Blue Wave warned that common safety steps, such as removing the ladder, may not be sufficient to prevent access because children can use the compression strap as a step. This design feature increases the risk of drowning if a child enters the pool unnoticed.
