Woman Suffers Serious Injuries in Accident With Semi-Truck Along Highway 24 in Marion County, Missouri

MARION COUNTY, Mo. — A Missouri woman was seriously hurt following a crash involving a tractor-trailer Monday evening in Marion County. The collision took place along Highway 24 east of Taylor.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2023 Freightliner was attempting to cross the highway when it entered the path of an approaching vehicle. Reports state that the truck driver did not yield the right-of-way and struck a westbound 2022 Toyota driven by a 26-year-old woman from Palmyra, Missouri.

The patrol classified the woman’s injuries as serious in its official crash report. No additional details about her condition have been released.

When a Truck Driver Fails to Yield, Investigations Need to Go Beyond the Police Report

Giving the right of way is not optional: obeying simple safety rules can be the difference between life, serious injury, or death. When a commercial driver fails to yield the right of way, someone pays the price. Here, the cost fell on a young woman now left with serious injuries.

Commercial truck drivers are obligated to wait until the roadway is clear before crossing a highway. They must yield to oncoming traffic and proceed only when it is safe. So why didn’t that happen here?

Through our years of handling similar cases, we know these crashes are often preventable and often the result of earlier failures—failures to monitor speed, enforce safety rules, or correct unsafe driving behavior. But finding these details means going beyond the police report.

Recently, we represented a family whose loved one’s life changed after a truck crash in Texas. In that incident, a semi-truck merged onto the highway without properly checking for traffic. The driver pulled his massive Freightliner directly into the path of a young mother who was driving safely on the highway, causing a collision so violent that the vehicle caught fire.

After a thorough investigation, we found that the truck driver had a history of disregarding basic safety rules yet continued to make deliveries. We also learned that the trucking company he worked for had a lax approach to hiring, training, and ensuring their drivers followed safety policies.

As a result, this young woman suffered painful second-degree burns across 10–19% of her body, including both ankles and feet — injuries that now affect how she stands, walks, and sits on the floor to play with her child.

We fought to hold the truck driver and the trucking company accountable for their negligent practices that led to life-altering injuries that changed someone’s home and work life forever.

The woman in this collision and her family also deserve answers. They deserve answers and accountability.

May they find the answers they need.
