Federal Investigation Expanded into 1.27 Million Ford F-150 Trucks Over Transmission Concerns


WASHINGTON — Federal safety regulators have broadened an ongoing investigation into approximately 1.27 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks following reports of transmission-related issues.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the probe involves 2015–2017 Ford F-150 models equipped with 6R80 transmissions. Drivers have reported that the vehicles may unexpectedly downshift without warning or driver input.

According to complaints submitted to the agency, the sudden downshift can cause temporary rear-wheel lockup or skidding, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Ford F-150 is the top-selling pickup truck in the United States.
