Driver Injured in a Semi-Truck Jackknife Accident on Highway 13 in Linn County, Iowa

LINN COUNTY, Iowa — A 60-year-old man was transported to the hospital Friday morning after a collision involving a semi-truck that jackknifed into oncoming traffic.

Emergency crews were dispatched to Highway 13 north of Heatons Valley Road following reports of a crash. Upon arrival, responders located a pickup truck with significant front-end damage in a ditch, and a semi-truck with similar damage stopped along the shoulder.

Authorities determined that the semi, traveling north with a trailer, jackknifed after being affected by strong winds, crossed into the southbound lane, and struck the pickup truck.

Fire crews extricated the pickup driver from his vehicle before he was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Jackknife Trucking Crash Raises Serious Accountability Questions

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, commercial truck drivers should reduce their speed by a third in bad weather. Did the truck driver in this incident follow these safety protocols?

Semi-trucks do not just jackknife: these incidents are often caused by excessive speed for the conditions, worn or poorly maintained brakes, improper loading, or a driver who was not trained or permitted to slow down or stop when required. We have to ask: Did any of these factors contribute to this crash?

Through our years of experience handling cases like this, we know those responsible will do all they can to minimize, deflect, or shift blame. But they should be held accountable to the fullest when negligent actions cause others great harm. Experienced commercial truck attorneys help make sure that happens.

A man was left injured. He has every right to ask questions and demand a full accounting of what went wrong.

We hope he finds the answers they deserve.
