SUV Occupant Injured After Head-On Crash With Tractor-Trailer Sends Truck Into Home in Dickinson Township, Pennsylvania

Dickinson Township, Pennsylvania — One person was flown to a trauma center on Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer collided with an SUV and crashed into a residence in Cumberland County. Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Carlisle Road and Goodyear Road following reports of a serious collision involving a commercial truck and a passenger vehicle.

Authorities reported that a tractor-trailer carrying soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate, was traveling northbound when it struck an SUV traveling in the opposite direction. After the initial impact, the truck overturned and slid off the roadway, striking the porch of a nearby home.

Officials stated that the force of the crash tore away the roof of the SUV. The vehicle’s sole occupant was trapped inside and required extrication.

The individual was airlifted to a regional trauma center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Injured Person Deserves Answers After a Head-On Tractor-Trailer Crash

Imagine the tremendous force it took to tear the roof from an SUV. A collision capable of causing that level of damage places the person inside at extreme risk of serious injury. Why did a crash of this magnitude even happen?

While a police report may describe how the crash occurred, it does not always explain why it happened. What appears to be a single driver’s mistake can involve deeper safety failures.

In many head-on truck crash cases we have handled, warning signs existed long before the collision — prior violations, unsafe driving histories, and inadequate supervision by the trucking company.

In one head-on truck crash case we recently handled in Texas, a commercial truck driver crossed the centerline and crashed into a family’s vehicle, leaving multiple people with severe injuries. One of those victims was a father who, because of his injuries, could no longer play with his young children.

Through our investigation, we discovered the crash was entirely preventable. At the time of the collision, the truck driver was on a personal phone call despite the well-known risks of distracted driving. The company he worked for failed to train, supervise, and monitor its drivers properly. We fought to hold them both accountable.

Understanding all the causes of a collision like this truly matters. A police report may identify who caused the crash, but it does not always reveal whether warning signs were ignored, whether safety rules were enforced, or whether the collision could have been prevented. The difference between a single mistake and a larger safety failure can change the scope of responsibility, the level of accountability, and the answers a family receives.

We hope the injured person here makes a full recovery and finds the answers they deserve.
