Driver Injured in a Tire Blowout Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 58 Flyover to Interstate 70 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — A semi-truck driver was injured Wednesday night after a rollover crash on the Highway 58 flyover ramp connecting to eastbound Interstate 70.

According to Wheat Ridge Police, the commercial truck experienced a tire failure while traveling on the elevated ramp. The blowout reportedly caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.

Emergency crews transported the driver to a nearby hospital. Authorities have not released information regarding the extent of the driver’s injuries.

Truck drivers have a right to be safe while on the job

When a commercial truck tire has a sudden blowout, it can seem like nothing more than bad luck. But tire failure is not always a random event. In many cases we have handled, the failure began at the manufacturing level, where the blowout was caused by a flaw in the tire’s design or construction. These problems do not begin on the highway. They start long before the truck ever reaches the road — when a defective product is allowed to leave the manufacturer’s.

In a past case we handled in South Carolina, a husband and long-haul driver lost his life after a sudden tire failure caused a violent crash. Our investigation uncovered evidence of defects in the tire, raising serious concerns about how the product was approved for use.

We fought to hold the manufacturer accountable and to seek justice for his surviving wife, who once ended each day with a phone call from her husband — a call that will never come again.

Every truck tire blowout crash that involves serious injuries deserves the same attention. Truck drivers spend long stretches away from their families to deliver the goods we rely on every day. They deserve to be safe. They deserve equipment that is reliable and well-made. When a defective tire causes harm, the cause must be thoroughly examined. If the failure began at the manufacturing level, those responsible should be held accountable.
