Romeo Arshakyan Killed After Tire Blowout Rollover Accident on State Route 14, Newhall, California

NEWHALL, Calif. — A man was killed during a rollover crash on a freeway exit ramp in Newhall, according to authorities. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon on State Route 14.

According to witness reports, the van lost control after a tire blowout, veered up an embankment, and rolled several times.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the driver dead. The victim has been identified as Romeo Arshakyan, 61, of Glendale.

Vehicle Tire Must Be Examined for Potential Defects After Fatal Crash

What a tragic incident. In single-vehicle crashes, attention often centers on the driver, their actions, the road, or routine vehicle maintenance. That focus is common. But when a life is lost, it cannot be the end of the investigation. The answers should not stop at the first police report.

Here, early reports suggest the vehicle may have suffered a tire blowout before it lost control. That detail matters. A tire failure is not always about road conditions or neglect. Tires do not simply fail without reason. Over the years, we have seen many cases where tires failed because they were defective — tires that should never have left the manufacturer in the first place. When that happens, the danger is built in long before the crash ever occurs.

Defective tires often fail because of problems that begin during manufacturing. Poor bonding between internal layers, improper construction, or hidden structural flaws can cause a tire to come apart under normal driving conditions, without warning. When a tire fails this way, it raises serious questions about whether it was ever safe to be on the road.

Manufacturers are responsible for making sure the products they sell are safe for everyday use. When defective tires reach the public and cause harm, those failures deserve to be examined, and accountability must follow if responsibility is found.

People drive every day, trusting that their vehicle and their tires will perform as they should. When that trust is broken, and a life is lost, the family left behind deserves clear answers about what went wrong and whether it could have been prevented.

After a sudden loss, families are left with grief, confusion, and unanswered questions. They should not be left to carry that alone. When there is reason to believe a product may have failed, those questions deserve careful attention and honest answers, so the truth is not overlooked.

We hope Mr. Arshakyan’s family finds the answers they deserve.
