Hyundai Recalls More Than 54,000 Allegedly Defective Elantra Hybrids Due to Fire and Injury Risk

UNITED STATES — Hyundai is recalling more than 54,000 Elantra Hybrid vehicles after identifying a defect within the hybrid system that could cause components to overheat and increase the risk of a vehicle fire. The recall affects certain 2024 through 2026 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid models.

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue involves the hybrid power control unit (HPCU), which contains a metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor, commonly known as a MOSFET. The MOSFET may overheat under high electrical loads, potentially creating conditions that could pose a fire hazard.

Hyundai has not advised owners to stop driving the vehicles at this time.
