Dump Truck Driver Killed After Accident Caused by Tire Blowout on Interstate-10 in Buckeye, Arizona

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — One person was killed Thursday morning after a dump truck overturned along Interstate 10, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Authorities said the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-10 near the Jackrabbit Trail exit.

Preliminary information indicates the dump truck experienced a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned off the roadway. The truck was transporting a load of sand at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders located one person at the scene who was pronounced dead.

No additional information regarding the crash or the circumstances surrounding the tire failure has been released.

The tire needs to be examined to determine the cause of failure

Dump truck tires fail for many reasons: excessive wear, road debris, poor maintenance, or overloading. But some causes are not obvious at the scene, including a defective tire that should never have been on the road.

We have handled cases where tire failure was caused by a defect in the tire’s design or construction. In those situations, the problem may trace back to the manufacturer that allowed a dangerous product onto the road. When that happens, the manufacturer should be held accountable for the harm caused.

The cause of the tire failure in this crash remains unknown. That is why the tire must be preserved and examined by trained professionals to determine why it failed and whether the blowout could have been prevented.

Dump truck drivers rely on safe, functioning tires while hauling heavy loads and traveling demanding routes. When a tire blows out and a driver loses their life, the family deserves to know exactly what went wrong.

We hope the surviving family finds the answers they deserve.
