OCUN Recalls Allegedly Defective Condor HMS Triple Carabiners Due to Serious Injury and Death Risk

UNITED STATES — OCUN North America has recalled certain Condor HMS Triple locking carabiners after identifying a defect that can prevent the gate from closing automatically, creating a fall hazard that could result in serious injury or death.

According to the recall notice, the gate mechanism can malfunction, causing the gate to remain open unless it is manually closed. If the gate fails to close properly during climbing activities, users may be at increased risk of falling.

The climbing devices feature a triple-locking gate and an independent internal wire gate designed for belaying and rappelling. The recall involves Condor HMS Triple carabiners sold in dark gray and blue.

The recalled carabiners were sold at specialty climbing retailers, including First Ascent Climbing and Fitness Arlington and Vertical eXcape Climbing Center, as well as through several online outdoor equipment retailers. The products were sold from February 2025 through February 2026 for between $23 and $60.

When climbers leave the ground, they trust their gear to work exactly the way it should. A carabiner may seem like a small piece of equipment, but it can play a critical role in a climber’s safety system. When a carabiner gate does not close automatically as it should, it can pose a serious risk of falling.
