Ram 2500 Recalls Allegedly Defective Heavy-Duty Pickup Trucks Over Software Issue Linked to Tire Failure and Crash Risk

UNITED STATES — Stellantis has announced a recall affecting more than 12,000 Ram 2500 pickup trucks after discovering a software issue that could allow the vehicles to exceed the safe speed capability of their tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall impacts approximately 12,736 Ram 2500 trucks from the 2023 through 2026 model years.

Safety officials said the affected vehicles may have been equipped with incorrect speed calibration software in the Powertrain Control Module. The error could allow the trucks to operate at speeds beyond the maximum rating of the installed tires.

Federal regulators warn that operating tires beyond their designed speed threshold can lead to excessive heat buildup and structural stress. The concern is especially significant in heavy-duty pickup trucks, which carry greater weight and place additional demands on tire performance and vehicle stability.

In severe situations, these factors may contribute to instability, rapid tire wear, or tire failure while driving.

According to the recall report, the affected trucks were manufactured between June 21, 2022, and April 14, 2026. Regulators estimate that all recalled vehicles contain the defect.
