California Truck Driver Byran Dixon Killed in Fiery Texas Tire Blowout Accident

TEXAS — A California truck driver died after a commercial vehicle tire blowout crash and fire while traveling through Texas, according to reports.

Family members identified the driver as Byran Dixon, a Central Valley resident who was returning home to California at the time of the incident.

Relatives said a tire on Dixon’s truck reportedly blew out, causing him to apply the brakes. The truck subsequently caught fire, and Dixon attempted to steer it away from other motorists before it struck an overpass and was engulfed in flames.

Family members believe his actions may have helped prevent additional injuries or fatalities by directing the truck away from nearby vehicles before impact.

The tire needs to be examined to determine the cause of failure

Based on this report and other news accounts, Mr. Dixon may have helped protect other motorists from harm in the moments before the crash. What a selfless and beautiful act. Yet he also deserved to be safe and not lose his life in such a horrific manner. We must find out what caused the semi-truck tire to blow out.

Semi-truck tires fail for many reasons. Excessive wear. Road debris. Poor maintenance or an overloaded truck. But some causes are overlooked: a defective tire— that should never have made it on the road.

We have seen many cases where a tire blowout was caused by a defect in the tire’s design or construction. In these situations, the problem often traces back to the manufacturer that allowed a dangerous product onto the road. When that happens, the manufacturer should be held accountable for the harm caused by their faulty product.

While the cause of the tire failure in this crash remains unknown, an investigation by trained professionals can help determine the cause of the blowout and whether it could have been prevented.

Truck drivers rely on safe, functioning tires to cover long, demanding distances they travel to ensure that essential goods reach us, consumers, on time. So anytime a tire blows out and a driver loses their life, we owe it to them and their family to make sure we know exactly what went wrong. And if a tire defect is found to be the cause, the manufacturer has to answer and be held accountable.

We hope Mr. Dixon’s surviving family finds the answers they need.
