CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Defective Rozato Tabletop Fire Pits After Death and Serious Burn Injuries

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued an urgent warning advising consumers to stop using Rozato tabletop fire pits immediately due to serious fire and burn hazards linked to the products.

The fire pits have been connected to one reported death and multiple incidents involving serious burn injuries.

According to the agency, the tabletop fire pits can create dangerous conditions when liquid fuel is poured into the open container and ignited. This can lead to uncontrolled fires in which flames spread across pooled or spilled fuel, producing larger, more intense flames than expected.

Officials also warned of a separate hazard known as flame jetting. This can occur if fuel is added while a flame is still present, even if it is not easily visible. In those situations, vapor inside the fuel container can ignite, causing a sudden burst of flames and burning liquid that can be projected outward toward users or nearby individuals.

The Rozato tabletop fire pits were sold in both rectangular and round designs. Some sets included accessories such as bamboo serving boards, roasting forks, and utensils. The products have been available through various online retailers, including Rozato’s website and major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, since 2022.

The retailer has not agreed to issue a recall.

The CPSC continues to monitor reports related to these products.

The hidden dangers of tabletop fire pits

They may look stylish or even cozy, adding a decorative touch to a home, but tabletop fire pits can become dangerous in seconds, setting fire to anything nearby on fire.

One of the most troubling issues is the way many of these devices are designed. Users are told to pour a flammable liquid, such as isopropyl alcohol, into an open container and ignite it there. If even a tiny flame is still burning during refueling, vapors can ignite, triggering a sudden burst of fire. Because these devices can reach temperatures above 1,600°F, there is almost no time to respond once something goes wrong.

Even with reports of serious injuries and deaths, these products are still being sold with weak safety protections and vague warnings. Some companies continue advertising them, at times even for indoor use, without clearly explaining how quickly a relaxing moment can turn into a devastating accident.
