The Ammons Law Firm has filed a lawsuit in the Harris County District Court following a serious collision in which an Uber driver allegedly ran a red light while transporting passengers. The incident, which took place in Houston, resulted in severe injuries to the passengers, highlighting ongoing concerns about rideshare driver safety and accountability on Texas roadways.
According to the lawsuit, the collision occurred when the driver operating a 2020 Toyota Corolla was eastbound on Westpark Drive in Harris County. The complaint alleges that the driver failed to obey a red traffic signal and caused a collision that resulted in serious harm to the passengers she was transporting through the Uber platform at the time of the crash. The investigating officer allegedly determined that the sole contributing factor to the collision was the driver’s failure to yield the right of way while running the red light, according to court documents.
The Ammons Law Firm is pursuing negligence claims against the driver, alleging multiple failures in the operation of the vehicle. The lawsuit alleges that the driver breached their duty to exercise ordinary care while transporting passengers, citing several specific acts of negligence, including failing to exercise reasonable care while operating a motor vehicle, failing to remain alert and attentive while driving, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to obey the traffic signal, and violating applicable provisions of the Texas Transportation Code. Each of these alleged failures, the lawsuit argues, constituted a breach of the duty of care owed to the passengers and directly caused the collision and resulting injuries.
The plaintiffs, who are residents of Florida and California, respectively, allege that they suffered severe and permanent injuries because of the collision. The lawsuit seeks compensation for a range of damages including physical pain and mental anguish both past and future, physical impairment that will continue for the rest of their lives, disfigurement both past and future, medical treatment expenses already incurred and those that will reasonably be required in the future, and all associated costs including pre-judgment and post-judgment interest at the maximum rates allowed by law. The complaint emphasizes that these injuries will have lifelong consequences for the victims, necessitating ongoing medical care and treatment for the remainder of their lives.
