Woman Killed in Accident with a Stalled Semi-truck on Houston, Texas, South Loop

HOUSTON — A woman died after her vehicle struck the rear of a stalled 18-wheeler on the South Loop Friday night, according to the Houston Police Department. The collision happened near Kirby Drive.

According to authorities, the woman was traveling along the South Loop when her car crashed into the back of a stalled tractor-trailer, becoming lodged beneath it.

Emergency responders transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities have not disclosed why the 18-wheeler was stopped in the roadway.

Investigation Needed to Determine Why 18-Wheeler Was Stalled Before Fatal Crash

Why was there a stalled commercial truck on a major roadway in the middle of the night? A stopped 18-wheeler in the dark creates a serious danger for drivers approaching from behind, especially when there is little time to react.

Initial attention may focus on the passenger vehicle that struck the truck, but our decades of experience handling similar cases tell us it is important to examine the truck’s condition and the decisions made before the crash. If the vehicle was stalled because of a mechanical issue, improper maintenance, or driver error, that needs to come to light.

A woman lost her life, and her family deserves answers that go beyond the police report. They deserve to know what caused the truck to be stopped in the roadway and whether any preventable failure contributed to the crash.

Our thoughts are with the family during this very difficult time.
