Hyundai Recalls Allegedly Defective 2026 Palisade SUVs and Issues Stop-Sale Following Child’s Death Linked to Powered Seat

WASHINGTON — Hyundai has announced a recall and stop-sale for certain 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid SUVs following a fatal incident involving a powered third-row seat, according to reports and federal safety data.

The recall affects vehicles equipped with powered third-row seating in the Calligraphy and Limited trims. The action comes after a child was killed during the movement of a seat, raising concerns about the safety of the seat-folding mechanism.

A review of complaints submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that similar issues may have occurred in other vehicles. At least three incidents since late 2025 describe powered seats moving unexpectedly, placing occupants at risk. Two of those reports involved injuries.

The reported issues suggest that the seat mechanism may activate or move in a way that can trap or injure occupants, particularly in confined rear seating areas.
