Bed Handles Inc. Recalls Allegedly Defective Adult Portable Bed Handles Due to Death and Entrapment Reports

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bed Handles Inc. have reannounced a recall of approximately 113,000 adult portable bed handles due to reported deaths.

According to federal safety officials, the hazard occurs when the bed handles are installed without safety retention straps. Without the straps secured to the bed frame, the handle can shift, creating a gap between the mattress and the device. This gap poses a severe risk of entrapment, strangulation, or death.

The recall includes adult portable bed handles sold by Bed Handles Inc. that were manufactured without safety retention straps. Affected models include:
• Original Bedside Assistant (BA10W)
• Travel Handles (BA11W), sold as a pair
• Adjustable Bedside Assistant (AJ1)

The L-shaped handles are constructed of tubular steel and feature poles that extend under the mattress. The BA10W and BA11W models have white handles and poles, while the AJ1 model is gold with a black foam grip. The product name and model number appear on a white label attached to the frame.

There have been several entrapment and death reports.
