One Injured in a Tire Blowout Crash Near Roosevelt Bridge on Highway 70 in Bryan County, Oklahoma

BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. — An accident involving a van and a passenger car on Highway 70 near the Roosevelt Bridge sent one person to the hospital Saturday morning.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash occurred after a Hyundai traveling westbound suffered a tire blowout. Another vehicle attempting to avoid the disabled Hyundai was then struck from behind by a van.

Authorities said the van driver became trapped inside the vehicle for nearly 30 minutes before emergency crews were able to extricate him. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Vehicle Tire Must Be Examined for Potential Defects After Crash

Early reports suggest the vehicle may have suffered a tire blowout before losing control. That detail matters. A tire failure is not always about road conditions or neglect. Tires do not simply fail without reason. Over the years, we have seen many cases of tires failing because they were defective: tires that should never have left the manufacturer in the first place. When that happens, the danger is built in long before the crash ever occurs.

Defective tires often fail because of problems that begin during manufacturing. Poor bonding between internal layers, improper construction, or hidden structural flaws can cause a tire to come apart under normal driving conditions, without warning. When a tire fails this way, it raises serious questions about whether it was ever safe to be on the road.

Manufacturers are responsible for making sure the products they sell are safe for everyday use. When defective tires reach the public and cause harm, those failures deserve examination, and accountability must follow if responsibility is found.

People drive every day, trusting that their vehicle and their tires will perform as they should. When that trust is broken, and someone is seriously injured, they deserve answers as to what went wrong and whether it could have been prevented.

We hope the man injured makes a full recovery and finds the answers they deserve.
