Woman Killed in Accident After Semi-Truck Strikes Disabled Vehicle on Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY — A woman died following a crash involving a semi-truck Saturday morning on Interstate 70 in Kansas City.

Preliminary findings indicate a black Hyundai with a flat tire was stopped in the left lane of westbound I-70 near the Walnut exit without its hazard lights activated when a tractor-trailer traveling in the adjacent lane reportedly merged into the left lane to pass another semi and collided with the rear of the disabled vehicle.

The Hyundai sustained extensive rear-end damage in the impact. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

What happened here is devastating. A driver experienced an emergency when their vehicle became disabled in an active travel lane, a situation that can unfold quickly, leaving little room for safe options. Mechanical failures and sudden breakdowns happen, often without warning.
