Federal Regulators Reopen Investigation Into GM 6.2L V8 After Post-Recall Engine Failure Complaints

WASHINGTON — Federal safety officials have launched a new inquiry into General Motors’ 6.2-liter L87 V8 engine after receiving dozens of reports alleging engine failure even after recall repairs were completed.

Regulators confirmed that 36 complaints have been submitted by vehicle owners who claim their engines experienced catastrophic failure following the manufacturer’s prescribed recall remedy. The complaints prompted the renewed review to determine whether the recall fix adequately addressed the underlying issue.

The L87 6.2L V8 engine is used in several GM vehicles.
