Stephen McKenzie Seriously Injured in Accident With 18-Wheeler on Interstate 10 Near Addicks Satsuma Road in Houston, Texas

HOUSTON, Texas — A 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon in a crash involving an 18-wheeler along Interstate 10 in west Houston.

According to reports, Stephen McKenzie was traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Malibu on the Katy Freeway near Addicks Satsuma Road when an eastbound Freightliner tractor-trailer was unable to pass the Malibu safely, and the front-right portion of the semi-truck collided with the passenger vehicle’s left side.

McKenzie reportedly sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Serious Truck Crashes Demand Answers Beyond the Initial Police Report

Commercial truck drivers should leave enough space, stay alert to surrounding traffic, and avoid risky passing maneuvers. But that may not have happened here. Why did this truck driver make a dangerous move that may have caused someone to suffer serious injuries? When a semi-truck driver fails to drive safely and someone gets seriously hurt, they should be held responsible.

We know firsthand what collisions like this cause. We recently represented victims badly injured after a crash with a commercial tractor-trailer. The truck driver tried to pass them on the left while they were getting ready to make a legal left turn at an intersection. The result was devastating: their physical capabilities and daily independence were permanently compromised. Our clients sustained life-altering injuries that changed the course of their lives.

Yet, as in many truck crash cases, the trucking company and its lawyers tried to avoid responsibility by minimizing blame. That was not fair, especially because the truck driver was clearly at fault for failing to keep a safe distance, making dangerous passing moves, and driving recklessly. But we fought to help the injured people seek the justice they deserved.

Mr. McKenzie also deserves answers and justice. We hope he makes a full recovery and finds the answers he needs.
