Lucid Recalls More Than 27,000 Allegedly Defective Air Sedans Due to Fire Risk

Lucid is recalling more than 27,000 Air sedans because a software problem affecting the vehicles’ exterior lighting circuits can allow electrical components to overheat, creating a risk of smoke or fire.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall involves 27,185 Lucid Air sedans from model years 2022 through 2026.

The problem involves software that controls the low-voltage circuits used for the vehicle’s exterior lighting. Those circuits receive power through an electronic fuse, or eFuse. If too much current passes through the affected circuits, components can overheat and potentially produce smoke or start a fire. The electrical problem can also cause the vehicle’s headlights or taillights to stop working.

Lucid has reported three fires believed to be associated with the defect, as well as four reports of smoke. The automaker has also identified 33 warranty reports involving damaged wiring harnesses for the center high-mounted stop lamp that may be related to the problem.

The recall affects Lucid Air sedans spanning five model years, from 2022 through 2026.
