Kayla Presley Injured During Head-On Collision in Smithville

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas—Kayla Presley, a 27-year-old woman, was transported to a hospital Feb. 7 after suffering injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 146.

Presley was driving a 2007 GMC Yukon north on Hwy 146 in Smithville when, for unknown reasons, a southbound 2015 Chevy 3500 Flatbed crossed the center line and entered oncoming traffic. Presley swerved to avoid a collision, but the Chevy driver, 42-year-old Steve Frame, swerved back into the path of her vehicle and hit it head-on.

Emergency personnel transported Presley to Cookeville Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Frame and a passenger in her vehicle, 40-year-old Amber Duke, were uninjured.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. No additional information has been released.

Commentary concerning The Head-on Collision That Injured Kayla Presley

Ms. Presley must be grateful to be alive and confused about what would have caused such a reckless act by another driver. It is very evident the driver of the flatbed failed to provide Ms. Presley the due caution she deserved while operating his vehicle. In fact, from the reports provided, it seems Ms. Presley was struck despite taking evasive action. Ms. Presley and her family deserve answers.

Primarily, we need to know what Mr. Frame was doing before the accident. I have seen head-on accidents caused by all sorts of distractions, from cell phones to cigarettes. When traveling two-lane highways, we cannot afford to let our guard down. A single lapse in judgment can cost someone their life. Mr. Frame must account for his actions leading up to the accident by truthfully disclosing what caused him to cross left of center. Thankfully, processes are in place to ensure answers are uncovered and justice served.

I am grateful Ms. Presley has survived to tell her side of the story. Until that time, I hope for her full recovery.
