18-Wheeler Crash Case in Houston, Texas

In attempting to pass two TxDOT sweepers that were in the process of sweeping a state highway’s improved shoulder, an 18-wheeler crossed the centerline of the highway and plowed head-on into an oncoming tractor-trailer operated by a 38-year-old Houston man. The collision forced the tractor-trailer across the roadway where it struck a guardrail as well as a crash truck that was following the sweepers as they worked. The tractor-trailer’s driver was seriously injured.

Rob Ammons filed suit against the Texas trucking company that owned the 18-wheeler, claiming its driver was negligent in failing to pass safely and in driving on the wrong side of the roadway. Because the driver was on the job at the time of the collision, the trucking company that employed him is legally responsible for his negligence.

“Commercial truck drivers are held to a higher standard of conduct than other highway users, but tractor-trailers are causing way too many major crashes and far too many injuries because their supposedly professional drivers fail to meet that standard,” says Ammons. “Something needs to be done to hold the trucking companies responsible and stem the tide of dangerous commercial truck drivers taking to Texas roadways.”
