Family of Man Killed in Industrial Accident Recovers $6.5M

The family of a worker fatally injured at an oil refinery will be compensated $6.5 million. In a lawsuit filed by Attorneys Robert Ammons and Justin Burrow on behalf of the worker’s wife and adult children, The Ammons Law Firm contended that the deadly incident occurred when the man entered a tank to begin abrasive blasting. The worker’s air line was inadvertently attached to lethal gas.

The lawsuit claimed that the line was a deadly condition at the oil refinery, which would not have existed if the refinery had followed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and its own safety rules. The owners of the refinery alleged that the worker’s employer was negligent in failing to follow such procedures.

The worker’s widow sought damages, which included the loss of his support and the loss of his companionship and society.
