GRANT COUNTY, Wis.—Jason Beckman, a truck driver of Lake View, Iowa, suffered minor injuries on March 30 after a tire on his tractor-trailer failed.
Beckman was driving the tractor-trailer on Highway 151 near Church Road when the tire blew out. He pulled the semi onto the shoulder and struck a guardrail before the big rig left the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment.
The trailer came to rest on its side. Emergency response personnel transported Beckman to a hospital for treatment.
The truck, trailer, guardrail, and road shoulder were all extensively damaged due to the crash.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
Thoughts on the semi accident in Wisconsin that injured Jason Beckman
We are highly fortunate that Mr. Beckman escaped this accident with only minor injuries. It is not uncommon for a sudden tire failure to leave the vehicle’s occupants catastrophically injured or even dead. I hope Mr. Beckman can make a full recovery and move forward in life uninhibited by his injuries.
In tire defect accidents, it is important to preserve the tire and all remaining tread pieces to ensure a detailed examination can be conducted. Failure to preserve the tire prevents trained professionals from being able to uncover the cause of the accident. If Mr. Beckman is considering legal action against the manufacturer, steps must be taken to preserve the evidence.
