RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif.—A 28-year-old Riverside man died March 8 in a horrific three-vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Jurupa Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside.
Local authorities identified the victim as William Castro.
Authorities are still working to determine how the crash occurred, but a preliminary investigation suggests that a Dodge Durango was westbound on Jurupa Avenue when it collided with a Honda Accord and Toyota Scion at the Van Buren Boulevard intersection.
Police found the Honda on its roof when they arrived on the scene at about 12:30 p.m. The Toyota and Dodge were also heavily damaged.
Paramedics immediately began treating the injured, including Castro, the driver of the Honda, who was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.
No additional information was immediately available. An investigation into the crash is underway.
Thoughts on the fatal accident that claimed the life of William Castro
Mr. Castro’s life was cut short due to another’s negligence. This is heartbreaking and undoubtedly devastating for the family left behind. The financial and emotional burden of an unexpected loss cannot go overstated. The Castro family will need support from family and friends as they navigate through this difficult time of grief.
As a product defect specialist, I focus my work on defects in cars and other products that lead to otherwise preventable injuries. I am concerned that the roof strength of the Honda was not sufficient to protect Mr. Castro from the impact of this collision, and as a result, Mr. Castro lost his life. While I have no information outside that which has been reported here, I find the facts of this case alarming and an investigation prudent. I am handling several cases in California similar to this and know California law has little tolerance for others’ careless acts.
I pray the Castro family receives the support they need and finds the strength required to get through this difficult time of grief.
