One person was killed in a rollover accident on Running Water Road

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas- One person is dead following a rollover crash on Running Water Road between Canyon and Happy.

The crash is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Randall County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the crash was not immediately apparent, but investigators know the vehicle rolled.

No other details were immediately available.

Single vehicle rollover deaths may be caused by defective parts or uncrashworthy vehicles

As we wait for the results of the investigations being conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the local Sheriff’s Office, we want to send our condolences to the loved ones of the individual killed in this crash.

Our firm has conducted numerous investigations into rollover crash fatalities to help families recover from the unexpected loss of their loved ones. Often, folks wrongfully conclude that no remedy is available in a single-vehicle rollover accident. However, this is not true, as many deaths are caused by defective or uncrashworthy vehicles. Crashworthiness refers to the ability of a vehicle to protect its occupants during an impact. Vehicles of all varieties have requirements that must be met for the vehicle to be deemed crashworthy, and manufacturers can face penalties if an investigation finds that these requirements are not met.

Rollover accidents are considered a foreseeable type of accident, meaning manufacturers must equip the vehicle with safety features designed to protect passengers in the event of a rollover crash. Some of these features, like seatbelts and airbags, are obvious. Others, like roof strength and the presence of internal roof supports or roll bars, are not always obvious. But a thorough legal investigation would ascertain whether those features were intact. If they were not, the victim’s family may be able to seek legal recourse against the vehicle manufacturer for failing to meet crashworthiness standards.

We raise these concerns to provide perspective to the grieving family. If the vehicle manufacturer had a role in this death, they need to be held responsible. Our firm handles rollover accidents across the country and can help determine if this death could have been prevented.
