Sharice Bilbee killed in moped accident after truck driver ignores light on Fourth Street

MARION, Indiana—Sharice Bilbee, 29, was riding a moped on Baldwin Avenue when she was struck by a semi-truck pulling an empty flatbed trailer down Fourth Street just before 10:15 p.m. on August 29, 2022.

Initial reports suggest that the driver of the semi-truck, Sohil Singh, 25, of Canada, disregarded a red traffic light and pulled into the intersection when Bilbee had the right-of-way. Singh’s truck hit Bilbee on the moped, and Bilbee was pronounced dead at the scene. Singh was not injured.

Investigation into the crash is still ongoing. No further information was immediately available.

The facts of this case suggest clear negligence on the part of the driver, and his actions must be accounted for

It is incredibly sad to know that a young woman’s life was so quickly stolen by the poor decisions of another. While we may not know all the details of this accident, it appears clear that Singh acted negligently in disregarding a red light while driving a semi-truck. Singh, along with the commercial trucking company he was likely working for, must be held accountable for these unacceptable acts of negligence.

Semi-truck drivers have a duty to ensure the safety of their cargo and other motorists on the road. Indeed, some could argue semi-truck drivers must be more vigilant than other vehicles on the road, simply due to the sheer size of their vehicles and their ability to cause significant damage to those around them. Likewise, commercial trucking companies must ensure that their drivers are aware of safety protocols and are properly educated on how to drive safely.

In this case, it is obvious that Singh was either ignorant of his duty to drive safely or disregarded that duty altogether. His actions are unacceptable, and he should be held responsible for Biblee’s death. Additionally, if Singh was employed by a commercial trucking company, the company should be held accountable for hiring such an incapable driver and/or failing to train its drivers (including Singh) on basic traffic rules.

While this seems like a simple case of negligence, it is important that Bilbee’s family and friends get the answers they deserve as to why their loved one lost her life for doing nothing wrong. Our firm can provide legal strategies to ensure that Singh and any other responsible party are held accountable for Bilbee’s death. In the meantime, our deepest sympathies go out to those impacted by this terrible wrongdoing.
