Teresa Ann Fowler was injured in a tire blowout accident in Osage County, Kansas

OSAGE COUNTY, Kansas- 44-year-old Teresa Ann Fowler was hospitalized with injuries sustained in an early morning tire blowout accident in Osage County.

Per the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, Fowler was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix when the left front tire blew out. The blowout caused Fowler to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the wall.

Fowler was treated at Stormont Vail Hospital for minor injuries.

No further information was immediately available.

Thoughts on sudden tire blowout accidents and potential remedies available

We are so grateful there were no fatalities reported because of this tire blowout. Blowouts can happen for many reasons, and they often result in severe injuries or death. We wish Ms. Fowler a speedy recovery, and we want to strongly advocate for an investigation into the cause of the tire blowout so that she has an opportunity to recover against any responsible party for her injuries.

The first thing we would want to investigate would be the condition of the tire itself. One potential cause of a tire blowout is a design defect of some kind in the tire. If this is found to be the case here, Ms. Fowler may be able to recover against the tire manufacturer the injuries she suffered in the crash.

We would also want to investigate whether the tire may have been improperly installed on Ms. Fowler’s vehicle. Tire shops must install and repair tires in a safe manner, and any indication this tire was not properly outfitted for this vehicle or was past its useful life may subject a tire shop to liability. An independent investigation would be able to discern whether the service shop installed the tire in question negligently, and a finding of that nature would allow Ms. Fowler to seek legal recourse against the shop.

We want to state again how grateful we are that Ms. Fowler’s injuries appear to be minor. That being said, any negligent conduct must be identified so that there is a lower risk of these accidents happening in the future.
