FRESNO COUNTY, California – A fatal two-vehicle accident has left one man dead and another seriously injured at the intersection of Manning Avenue and James Road.
According to authorities, Jeff Mullhofer, 48, was the front-seat passenger in a pickup truck traveling on Manning Avenue. As the truck crossed through the intersection of James Road, an unidentified driver of a service truck heading north on James Road ran a stop sign and crashed into the passing truck. The force of the collision pushed the truck into an abutting field.
Authorities released information regarding the condition of the motorists involved. The driver of the service truck was reportedly not injured. The driver of the other truck suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Jeff Mullhofer suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash. All involved were wearing their seatbelts.
While the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, authorities stated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

It goes without stating that Mr. Mullhofer was entirely innocent, and his life was wrongfully taken by the negligent conduct of another. The same goes for the innocent driver who was seriously injured. Local authorities will determine if criminal charges should be filed based on the evidence discovered during their investigation.
While that plays out, the families will also have a right to bring a wrongful death and personal injury claim against the negligent driver and the employing company for the suffering they must endure by the unexpected passing of Mr. Mullhofer and the injuries suffered by the driver. This right should be provided to them, and I hope the negligent parties will have the decency to resolve this matter quickly, given the clear disregard for life demonstrated in this crash.
