Tire Blowout Leads to Accident in Shawnee County, Two Injured

Topeka, KS – A tire blowout incident resulted in a vehicle losing control and colliding with a barrier wall in Shawnee County, leaving two individuals injured.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs, a 21-year-old woman from Sioux City, Iowa, was operating a 2016 Kia Soul southbound on I335 in the right lane. The left rear tire suffered a blowout, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the Kia Soul collided first with a guardrail on the right shoulder and then with the inside barrier wall.

The driver of the vehicle, along with a 31-year-old woman, also from Sioux City, both sustained injuries in the accident. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, and both injured parties were transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.

Both women were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash. No further information was immediately available.

People injured in tire-related accidents deserve justice for the injuries they have suffered.

Tire failure accidents like this one happen every day all over the country. In fact, in 2021, 662 people died in tire-related crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Countless more suffered serious injuries. Many of these crashes are caused by defective tires.

These preventable accidents underscore the importance of tire safety and a manufacturer’s responsibility to produce roadworthy products that consumers can use safely. Any loss of life or serious injury suffered because of a defective tire is unacceptable, and tire manufacturers who cause loss of life or injury should be held accountable.

As professionals conduct a thorough investigation, manufacturers nationwide must evaluate their products and processes to ensure that these kinds of accidents no longer occur. As attorneys with knowledge and experience in tire defect litigation, we offer our support and assistance to the injured and their families as they seek justice in the aftermath of this crash.
