Alexis Vincente was Struck and Killed by a Semi-Truck on I-95 in New Haven, Connecticut

New Haven, Connecticut — A man lost his life after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95. The man has been identified as Alexis Vincente from Union City, New Jersey.

According to reports, Vincente’s truck stopped in the triangular area of I-95 South, near the exit 46 off-ramp. He was standing outside his vehicle when a passing tractor-trailer struck him.

Thoughts on Semi-truck and Pedestrian Accidents

The CDL manual prepares aspiring truck drivers on how to drive safely. The CDL manual states that most good drivers will know what’s happening around them and will look 12-15 seconds ahead to ensure they can move forward safely. At highway speeds, that means seeing what is happening about one-quarter of a mile ahead (CDL Manual). Did the truck driver in this fatal accident adhere to the CDL guidelines? Did the driver follow the rules in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations? The fact this crash occurred suggests the driver failed to follow basic rules of safety.

In many incidents, truck drivers fail to stop in time and cause catastrophic accidents because they are speeding, distracted, or even impaired. Did that happen here? If so, accountability must happen to give the family of the deceased justice for their loss. The loss of a family member impacts the surviving family in many ways—mental anguish, pain and suffering, hospital and funeral expenses, and even loss of future wages if the family depended on the deceased for living expenses. Families deserve justice when another party’s negligent actions cause them grief and life-altering circumstances.

May the surviving family receive the answers and justice they so rightfully deserve.
