Thoughts on Semi-Trucks Driving in Inclement Weather

This is a complicated crash. Many will assume the driver of the car is wholly at fault for what happened here. However, that is not always the case.

Images of this accident show heavy fog and slick roads. This is a very dangerous weather condition that requires truck drivers and other motorists to exercise extreme caution. Specifically, truck drivers must follow special rules from the federal government that say how and when to drive. Depending on the weather conditions at the time of the crash, the truck may not have been allowed to be on the roadways at all. If it was allowed on the roadways, it may need to have been traveling at slow speeds.  This is because the chance of losing control of a truck or another motorist losing control of their car is much higher in dangerous weather conditions.

The information from the news report does not provide if the truck was properly on the roadway at the time of the crash. A detailed investigation may provide details on this question and provide the family with the answers they deserve.
