MONROE COUNTY, Ga. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that a fatal wreck occurred on July 11, 2023, on Interstate 75 near mile marker 179. The accident left one dead.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call regarding a motor vehicle accident. A Chevrolet 2500, operated by Alfonso Perez Franquez of Fulton County, had been involved in the accident. Mr. Franquez was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were involved, and there were no reported injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate the accident was caused by a tire blowout on the truck. However, the authorities have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
No further information was immediately available.
This crash needs to be investigated to determine what caused the tire to fail.
Tire failure accidents often result in serious injury or death. Unfortunately, many think that these crashes are caused by the driver, or the driver is at fault. That is not necessarily true. Many times, drivers are completely innocent in tire blowout crashes. This is especially true when the tire failed because of a defect caused by the tire manufacturer, or a tire repair company improperly repaired the tire.

In one such case, a family was traveling to Mexico to visit family when the truck they were traveling in experienced a rear tire failure. The driver was unable to control the vehicle, and it rolled over, killing the wife and young child. After investigating the crash, we determined the tire failed due to a defect. We have brought a lawsuit against the manufacturer on behalf of the surviving husband to hold it responsible for the death of his family.
We are handling another case where a young man was returning home from work with his cousin. As the young man entered the highway and approached highway speeds, the rear tire on his SUV failed, causing the vehicle to roll over. The young man was killed, leaving behind grieving parents looking for answers. After investigating the accident for the family, we determined that the tire failed due to defects in the tire. We have brought a lawsuit against the manufacturer to hold them accountable for the innocent life lost in the crash.
These are just two of many examples of crashes caused by factors outside the driver’s control. When innocent motorists are killed because a manufacturer or repair company does not do their job correctly, the surviving family has a right to hold the company responsible accountable for the losses they have suffered.
This crash will need to be investigated to determine why the tire failed. If the tire failed because of a defect or improper repair, the surviving family should be given this information and provided an opportunity to hold the wrongdoers responsible.
