Michele Von-Behrens and Scot C. Charleston Injured in Motorcycle Crash Caused by Tire Blowout

WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa — A tragic accident unfolded on Interstate 80 near the Williamsburg exit in Iowa County around 3 p.m. on Saturday, leaving two individuals hospitalized.

Scot C. Charleston, 46, and his passenger, Michele Von-Behrens, 40, were thrown from their motorcycle after a tire blowout on their attached trailer, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The sudden deflation caused Charleston to lose control of the vehicle, leading to the incident. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle switch lanes after the tire blew out.

Charleston and Von-Behrens were airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment of injuries.

The Tire Needs To Be Inspected For Defects

If the tire failed because of defects, the manufacturer should be held responsible for the injuries and suffering caused by this crash. Manufacturers that produce defective tires should not be allowed to escape liability when their failures lead to significant suffering to others.

There are many reasons a tire can be defective. The tire here will need to be preserved so trained professionals can inspect it. If there is evidence of defect, the injured will have a right to bring a personal injury claim against the manufacturer and recover legal damages for their injuries and suffering.
