Avon, Ohio — A man was rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning after a dump truck accident on Interstate 90 in Avon, Ohio.
The incident occurred just before noon when a tandem axle dump truck traveling east on I-90 suffered a tire failure on the right front passenger side. As a result, the truck veered off the road and flipped over, as stated in a report from the Avon Police Department.
The driver, identified as Kyler Carter, was transported by medical professionals to Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital at Richard E. Jacobs Campus for medical treatment. Unfortunately, no further details regarding the extent of his injuries were provided at this time.
Police are investigating the crash. No further information was immediately available.
The tire in this crash may have failed due to a defect in the tire and should be investigated by professionals.
When innocent truckers are injured in a crash caused by a tire failure, they should not have to suffer the financial consequences of their injuries.
We are seeing steer axle tires fail on trucks like this one across the country. Many of these blowouts are caused by factors completely outside the control of the driver. Unfortunately, we are seeing an increasing number of steer axle tires failing due to defects in the tire. When a tire fails due to a defect, the truck often rolls over, and the driver is seriously injured or killed. Thankfully, Mr. Carter survived this crash.
In one crash we are currently handling, our client’s husband was traveling at highway speeds in a Kenworth dump truck when the truck’s front right steer-axle tire failed. The truck pulled hard right and crashed through a highway barrier before falling off the beltway. The man did not survive the crash, leaving behind a grieving family.
In another similar crash, our client’s son was traveling on a two-lane highway when an oncoming cement truck’s front left steer-axle tire failed, causing the driver to overcorrect and roll the truck into oncoming traffic. The young man’s vehicle was smashed. Our client’s son was killed in the crash, leaving behind grieving parents looking for answers.
In another similar crash, a young husband was traveling loaded with gravel at highway speeds when his front steer axle tire failed, causing his dump truck to pull hard off the road. The man could not retain control of the truck, and it rolled into the median. The man was killed, leaving behind his wife and children.
These are just a handful of the many crashes like the one Mr. Carter was injured. Many of these crashes were caused by defects in the tire, and we sued the manufacturer on behalf of our client.
The tire here must be inspected to determine if it failed because of defects. If the tire proves defective, the manufacturer should be responsible for the injuries and damages suffered by Mr. Carter. It is unjust for a company to produce a defective product that ends up injuring an innocent motorist and avoid liability. Laws protect innocent motorists from the wrongdoing of others and provide them an avenue to recover for their damages.
Until then, I extend my best wishes to Mr. Carter and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
