HENDERSON, Ky.— A tragic hit-and-run accident involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian is currently under investigation by the Henderson Police Department.
The incident occurred on Friday morning, resulting in the closure of the intersection of 2nd Street and Green Street.
According to preliminary reports, a woman lost her life in the collision, and multiple drivers struck her after the initial impact with the semi-truck. Disturbingly, at least one vehicle, in addition to the semi, fled the scene.
Law enforcement officials from the Kentucky State Police are taking charge of the investigation, and they have located the semi-truck involved in the incident.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed, pending notification of her next of kin.
The Surviving Family Deserves Answers and Justice
The details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the crash and the sequence of events following the initial impact remain unknown at this time.
The intersection where the tragic crash occurred was closed for several hours to allow for the proper investigation and clearing of the scene.
No further information was immediately available.
The surviving family should be provided a right to bring a wrongful death claim against the trucker and trucking company for the loss of their loved one. This was a terrible crash, and the family deserves justice.
We have handled many pedestrian accidents over the years and the drivers routinely blame the pedestrian. This is not fair. For one, the pedestrian generally does not survive to tell their side of what happened. And second, this leaves the family without an avenue to recover the financial support they need in the aftermath of an unexpected death.
The events leading up to the crash will need to be investigated to ensure the rights of the surviving family members are protected and they receive the answers they deserve.
I offer my deepest condolences to the surviving family and hope they receive the support they need during this difficult time of grief.
