Amarillo, TX – According to the information released by the Amarillo Police Department, a wreck occurred in the area of the I-40 interchange at Ross. The accident involved three vehicles and resulted in one person being hospitalized with “life-threatening” injuries.
The incident was reported by an officer around 11:28 a.m. on Monday. At the time of the accident, traffic was slowing down in the area due to traffic cones closing lanes. A large oxygen truck collided with the back of a car, causing it to hit the back of an SUV.
All three vehicles involved in the accident sustained damages and are being towed. The Amarillo Police Traffic Investigation Unit is currently on the scene to conduct further investigations.
Authorities have advised drivers to avoid the area of the interchange on I-40 westbound from Ross to Washington, as well as routes from downtown or I-27. Traffic in that area is being diverted while officers work to clear the scene. An update will be provided when the area is open for normal traffic again.

Innocent motorists injured by the negligence of companies and drivers should not bear the cost of such injuries and their life-long impact alone. Those responsible for the suffering of others, whether it’s an individual or company, have a duty to compensate the injured for their losses.
We are handling similar crashes across the country. When companies and their drivers demonstrate repeated negligent behavior, and that behavior results in similar accidents and injuries, there is a problem. Drivers engaged in bad behavior should be held accountable for such actions. However, it is equally important to hold companies accountable that fail to use processes and procedures to keep dangerous drivers off the road or train drivers to avoid such behavior.
Our clients in similar accidents find comfort in recovering the financial resources they need to cover medical care and provide for their needs. They also find comfort in bringing about safer roadways for others by holding responsible parties accountable. There is no reason to injure others in a crash when the crash can be avoided.
The injured here, and others that find themselves in a similar circumstance, have rights. Those that infringe on these rights and cause harm should be held accountable. Until then, I hope for a full recovery for the injured and sustained support during the process.
