Tire Blowout Crash on I-196 in Wayland, Michigan, Leaves One Dead, One Injured

WAYLAND, Mich. – A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon along I-196, prompting an immediate response from the Michigan State Police. The crash occurred on the northbound side of I-196 near Saugatuck, at mile marker 43.

According to troopers, the driver, identified as a 32-year-old Zeeland man, experienced a tire blowout, causing him to lose control of the pickup truck. The vehicle subsequently overturned into the median.

Investigators have determined that neither individual involved was wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident. The passenger, a 29-year-old Holland man, was ejected from the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

No further information was immediately available as authorities continued investigating the crash.

Those Impacted in This Crash May Wish to Bring a Lawsuit Against the Manufacturer

Rollover accidents account for a high proportion of all fatalities in a single-vehicle accident, claiming over 10,000 lives per year. Unfortunately, many of these accidents are caused by tire failures. This crash is another example of the devastating harm that occurs in these accidents.

Our firm represents families whose loved ones are killed in rollover accidents. These are difficult cases. Many assume the driver is solely responsible for the injuries and death caused by the crash. However, that is not always the case. Many rollover accidents, such as the one here, are caused by tire failures. And tire failures may be caused by factors outside the driver’s control.

It is clear that this accident was caused by a sudden tire failure. Victims injured or killed in a rollover accident caused by a tire blowout may be able to recover compensation from the tire manufacturer. If the tire failed because it was defective, then the injured driver and the family of the deceased victim may wish to bring a product liability claim against the manufacturer of the tire and hold them accountable.

Having represented hundreds of victims and their families in lawsuits against tire manufacturers, we have learned that our clients find comfort in holding a manufacturer accountable for its mistakes. By raising awareness of tire defects, our clients also protect other families from suffering the same loss.

An investigation into this crash will be needed to determine why the tire failed. We can conduct this investigation without upfront cost to see if the tire was defective. If it was, the family of the deceased and the injured driver will have a right to bring a lawsuit against the manufacturer and hold it accountable for the losses they have suffered because of the tire’s failure.
