STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, MISSOURI — Edgar Rubio-Goncales was killed in a truck accident after running off the road near MM 160 on I-55 in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri.
According to reports, 42-year-old Edgar Rubio-Goncales of San Luis, Arizona, was traveling south on I-55 near Bloomsdale when his 1993 Ford L8000 truck suffered a mechanical issue, causing him to lose control and crash into a cable barrier. The truck then overturned and caught fire.
Rubio-Goncales was pronounced dead at the scene by a Ste. Genevieve County Assistant Coroner.
The exact cause of the crash was not available, with officials reporting that the truck experienced a mechanical failure of some kind.
No further information was immediately available.
The cause of the accident will need to be determined to ensure the surviving family is compensated for their loss
Approximately 10% of truck accidents are caused by mechanical failure of some kind. Most of these failures affect the tires, steering, or brakes. While authorities did not release information on what failed in this case, it will be important to have the accident independently investigated to determine the exact mechanical failure and what caused the issue.
When an accident is caused by a mechanical failure, the driver may not be responsible for the crash. Drivers expect their equipment to function as designed, and when that does not happen, the manufacturer of the product or equipment may be responsible. For instance, we see steer axle tire failures on large trucks like the one here on a routine basis. Many of these accidents are caused by defects in the tire that lead to premature tire failures. In these situations, we bring a lawsuit against the tire manufacturer for selling a defective tire that failed and help the surviving family recover the financial compensation they need during a difficult time of grief.
Trained attorneys will be able to determine the exact cause of failure in this crash and determine if a third party is responsible. If it is determined that this crash was caused by a mechanical issue caused by a third party, the surviving family will need answers under the law.
I extend my condolences to the surviving family and pray for their strength and support during this difficult time.
