One killed in gravel truck accident on I-35W, North Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident involving an over-turned gravel truck on Interstate 35W in North Forth Worth.

According to reports, a southbound semi-truck hauling gravel was involved in a crash with at least one passenger vehicle. The cause of the crash was not immediately apparent. The vehicle involved in the crash broke apart in the accident, causing a piece of the vehicle to strike a northbound vehicle.

Authorities provided little information regarding injuries but confirmed that one-unidentified motorist was killed in the collision.

No further information was immediately available.

The accident needs an independent investigation, and all wrongdoers must be held accountable for the devastating loss of life.

An independent investigation will provide the surviving family with the information they need to move forward. If this accident was caused by negligence on the part of the trucker, the trucker and the company will need to be held liable. If the accident was caused by improperly loaded gravel – increasing the center of gravity, causing the truck to tip over – the shipper and loaders may have some liability in this case. Alternatively, approximately 10% of truck accidents are caused by mechanical failure, in which case a manufacturer or the service company responsible for maintaining and repairing the truck may have some fault in the accident. Regardless of what happened, it will be important to determine all wrongdoing that contributed to this crash.

Texas law applies comparative fault in accident cases, meaning the actions of all drivers and all other parties will be considered when determining who is civilly responsible for the death of the unidentified motorist.
