Three dead after a two-truck accident on State Road 26 near Hatch, New Mexico

HATCH, NM – Three people were killed after two tractor-trailers crashed on State Road 26 near Hatch, New Mexico.

According to preliminary reports, two semi-trucks crashed head-on for unknown reasons, resulting in the death of three. The names of the deceased were not released.

Traffic was diverted, and the highway was closed for multiple hours as authorities attended to the crash. No further information was immediately available.

The families of the deceased deserve answers and assistance

This is a horrific crash that will undoubtedly result in tremendous pain and suffering in the lives of the surviving families. The cause of the crash will need to be determined to help the surviving families recover the compensation they need to move forward.

Fortunately, trained attorneys can help sort through the difficulties of this crash. While not reported at this time, it is evident that one of the trucks crossed left-of-center and struck the other semi head-on. Such actions cannot be tolerated, and trained attorneys can often determine what was happening prior to the collision that caused the driver to cross into oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, many of these types of accidents are simply caused by human error, a driver distracted by a cell phone, or tired from a long day’s work. However, other accidents such as this one are caused by factors outside the control of the driver, such as a sudden mechanical failure or technology that did not perform as intended.

Having trained attorneys investigate the accident is important because it ensures all wrongdoing is accounted for. Many will look at this accident and assume that one trucker alone is wholly responsible and help the surviving family recover compensation for their loss by going after a single insurer. This allows other wrongdoers to walk away and may limit the total recovery of the family, who, after suffering the loss of a loved one, should receive full compensation under the law.

This is a terrible crash that will require much sorting through. The trucking companies involved have undoubtedly begun their investigations with the purpose of limiting liability, and trained attorneys will need to begin their investigation promptly to ensure the full extent of wrongdoing is understood and accounted for. I offer my deepest condolences to all involved and hope they may find peace during this difficult time of grief.
