Thoughts on Large Truck Intersection Accidents
Intersections are dangerous, especially when large trucks are involved. In 2020, 26.6% of fatal large truck accidents were intersection-related (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration). Truck drivers must be vigilant of other drivers since their size is no match for other vehicles. This requires defensive driving. When large trucks cause a devastating wreck or fail to take action to avoid a wreck, the people affected deserve answers.
Who caused the collision? Did the trucker fail to yield? Was the trucker driver distracted? Speeding? Could the truck have prevented or avoided the crash? These details are crucial to determine the truck driver’s role in this terrible incident. Answers to these questions are not always clear when only one person survives because we only get one side of the story. However, there are ways to see what the truck and driver were doing leading up to the crash to ensure the truth comes out.
Looking at the performance of the vehicles may also be important. Sometimes mechanical issues or other factors can lead to crashes. In these cases, the people responsible for repairing and maintaining the truck need to answer for their mistakes.
After a fatal crash, people deserve answers. What happened, and how could it have been prevented. If wrongdoing is discovered, those responsible should take accountability.
